Income tax, when your mail matters the most! This is the time of the year when people wait patiently on the W-2 from your employer to arrive at your place of residence. Some W-2’s come early, and some employers wait until the deadline of January 31, to mail the forms to their employees. Why does your address matter? Well it’s where you reside, and having the correct address goes a long way if you want to be able to file, and receive a refund for the year that you have worked so hard, and paid your taxes for. So if you have been living at 2107 Treetop Lane, and your employer has been entering 21075 Treetop Lane for the entire year, and you haven’t corrected the error, then it can be a serious problem if your regular letter carrier is on vacation when your W-2 is mailed from your employer, and your W-2 is returned to the sender because there isn’t an address such as 21075 Treetop Lane, and now you might have to wait an additional 2-3 weeks for the employer to receive the returned mail to correct the mistake with your W-2.

When you go to your tax preparer make sure that you print your information legibly because a zero can be mistaken for the letter O, or an S can be mistaken for the number 5, so always review your information carefully when the tax preparer asks you if everything is correct, because if there’s a simple mistake as simple as your name being Smith, and the preparer enters your name as Smyth, and you have moved to a new address, and your income tax check goes to your old address, and if your name isn’t corrected as being Smith instead of Smyth, then it’s easy to see that your check could possibly be returned, so remember income tax, when your mail matters the most, stay alert fix errors, correct any mistakes that you see early and often. www.iwantmymail.com

Moving in the same zip code has advantages! Why is this possible? Well if you live in a house, and you decide to sell your property, and move two streets over, and two blocks east, and your zip code happens to remain the same then it could be beneficial to you, and your family if you happen to get to meet the new owner, and let them know where you’re currently residing now that you have sold your house. Why is this important? Well suppose you order an item auto-ship, but you forget to communicate with the company that you receive the auto-shipment from once a month, and they deliver the item to your old address at 4552 Brushy Creek Lane, and you’re now residing at 4301 Shady Creek Drive, and the DHL driver does as the package says, leave if no one is at home, and when the new owner gets home, and sees the package, they can then call you, and within 5 minutes you can go to the house, and retrieve the package, but if the new owner doesn’t know you, and you remember that the auto-shipment date is always on the 20th day of the month, and you go to your old property to retrieve your auto-shipped package for weight loss, and the new owner has a Ring, Nest, or any type of security alarm setup at their home, and they see you pick up a package that they think belongs to them, then you could be looking at theft, and trespassing charges.

Normally if your item is sent through the Postal Service, the carriers will communicate, and figure out that in most cases you could still be on their route, or their case partner next to them to help solve this dilemma, so remember to communicate, and remember that moving in the same zip code has advantages. www.iwantmymail.com

Don’t let the Porch Pirate steal your Christmas! Around the world there are reports of porch pirates boldly walking up to houses, condos, apartments, and etc., to steal your items that you have worked hard for all year to spread the feeling of Christmas joy around the world. Here are some things that can help you in your fight against porch pirates around the world. If someone is driving around in a vehicle without a license plate, and you see them back into a yard as if they live at the residence consider it to be a red flag, if they have a plastic sack from Walmart or any other store covering their license plate they could be up to no good, they could not only be looking for packages to steal they could be inside of your house trying to rob your home of any and all valuables that you possess.

How can you defend against porch pirates? Let logistics and delivery companies know that you don’t want your items put into plain sight where anyone can see them from the street, this attracts the attention of a porch pirate, also if they can put the items in a plain box this might help to deter theft, but if they see names such as Nike, Gucci, Polo, and etc., the porch pirate will think that they have struck gold. If you have the opportunity to obtain a Ring, Nest, or any type of system that can record activity on your porch it’s highly recommended that you do so, because it can help capture the thief in action, and could possibly aid the police in identifying the suspect who is committing these crimes. If you travel, or stay at work for long hours ask your neighbor to pick up your package, and save it for you when you get home. Don’t let the Porch Pirate steal your Christmas! www.iwantmymail.com

Keep your luggage tag up to date! Why is this so important? Well your on your way to the airport for a 6a.m., flight from Boston, Massachusetts direct to Los Angeles, California for a business meeting with a potential client. You left your home at 3:30a.m., to give yourself adequate time to arrive at the airport to park, check-in at the kiosk, and then check-in your bags at the American Airlines desk, but you forget to put a luggage tie onto your bags to identify your bags in the event that someone mistakenly grabs your bags at the LAX airport in Los Angeles, California. On your luggage is an old luggage tie from a flight that you took on Southwest Airlines when you flew to Tampa, Florida three years ago. Once you have went through the Homeland Security checkpoint you go to your terminal, and decide to shop for your Wife some yoga pants at www.oregonomega.com, because it’s a Christmas gift.

Once you arrive at the airport in Los Angeles, you realize that someone has grabbed your luggage, and once the individual arrives home they realize that the two bags that they grabbed wasn’t their luggage, so they call the old cell phone number that you changed once you moved back to Boston, Massachusetts three years ago, and the address is invalid as well because the Hernandez family is now residing at the residence that you sold over three years ago. What can possibly save you from disaster? The email address that you left on the luggage tag wasn’t changed, and the individual was able to send you an email to take your bags back to LAX to have them delivered to the Omni hotel where you will be meeting with your client in less than 2 hours.

The moral to the story is keep your luggage tag up to date, because you never know when someone might grab your bags, fill out the luggage tie, along with the email, because some people would rather email than call, but in the event that they might call make sure that your number is valid, and keep your luggage tag up to date! www.iwantmymail.com

A label in your mailbox can go a long way! What exactly does this mean? Having a label in your mailbox can help delivery personnel know who actually resides at your house. If you move into a house, and the previous owner never submitted a change of address through the Postal Service, then you could continue to receive their mail, unless you put a label in your mailbox with your last name inside of your mailbox, you don’t have to put your first name, all you need to put is your last name, for example: Smith, and if you happen to be married, you might want to include your spouses maiden name, in the event that her college alumni magazine might send her newsletter in the name of her maiden name, which could be Gregory for example.

If you own a business, and you have mail coming to your address with your business name, it would be highly recommended that you include your business name as well, because if your business is called Mars Properties, and inside of your mailbox you have Wilson only, and maybe a check comes in your business name, and the USPS delivery person sees this, and they’re not your regular carrier, your mail could possibly get sent back, or it could be delayed for one to two weeks depending on how long your regular letter carrier is on vacation.

Why don’t people like to have labels in their mailbox? It could possibly be because of privacy issues, but if you receive mail at your home, having a label inside of your mailbox helps to ease the hassle of receiving the previous residents mail, unless your moving into a new development, and all of the houses are new along with the new streets, but it helps to have a name inside of a box. A label in your mailbox can go a long way.

If the doorbell rings, you might have less than one minute to act. What exactly does this mean? You’re watching your favorite television show, and the doorbell rings, and you decide to ignore your doorbell figuring the package will be there when you decide to go outside to get it, but there’s a car that has been trailing the UPS, FedEx, and Amazon truck all day, hoping that you don’t come to the door to get your package, and once the delivery driver drops off the package, while watching your favorite movie, someone parks in your driveway like they live at your residence, and they casually walk up onto your porch, and take your package like it belongs to them. If you don’t have a Ring system, or Nest system that records when individuals walk up onto your property, you could possibly be out of luck, because the logistics provider has provided the service of leaving the package at your residence, and your doorbell has been rung.

If you’re not going to be home, and you don’t have an alarm, or monitoring system, and you have a neighbor who is retired, or stays at home a lot during the day, ask them to pick up your package, and put it inside of their home until you come home from work. If you have an area on your porch where items can be hid leave a sign that says, packages here, because if a thief, or porch pirate is walking around in the neighborhood, a package that is visible will attract their attention 1000 times more than a package that is hidden on a porch, or behind a door. At night leave your lights on if possible, because a thief would rather act in the dark preferably than in the light because of the fact of being seen. Happy Holidays, please be safe, and remember if the doorbell rings, you might have less than one minute to act.

Holiday cards, keeping in touch during the holiday season! This is the time of the year when we normally reach out to relatives, and friends, that we quite possibly might haven’t had contact with in one year, or even longer. You, and your family have moved from Cleveland, Ohio to Los Angeles, California, and you want your old buddy from the Army to know that you now have a new address so send a Christmas card to Orlando, Florida, the last address where you sent your friend a Christmas card to 5 years ago, only this time your friend, and old Army buddy Jim Smith has taken on a new job, and has moved his family to Seattle, Washington 4 years ago. You send the Christmas card off anticipating that Jim will respond with a Christmas card in his reply, but one week later the Christmas card is returned to the sender with the stamp that reads, forwarding order expired. At this point your devastated because you don’t have Jim’s email address, and his cell phone number has changed.

New apartment complex

If you can enter the building attempt to leave the package with the resident. Why is this so hard for logistics companies to do? The customer has paid for a service, and the delivery driver decides to leave the package outside of a door that can be opened, leaving the package outside to be rained on, and if the wrong person sees it, theft will occur if the package has an attractive name on it like Amazon, Gucci, Nike, PlayStation, and etc. If you live in a building where a code must be entered to have access, it’s important that the driver has access, because if the package says, to leave the item, don’t take back to the office, then the driver is going to leave the item at your apartment complex, but in the event that this happens, common sense should kick in, and the driver should go to the office to ask what their policy is with packages if the owner isn’t at home at the time of delivery, if the driver leaves the package outside as the box says on its instructions, and the package is stolen then you have an unhappy customer, who will more than likely choose a different logistical provider to deliver items to their address, but if the company has a deal with the merchant it’s a possibility that you might be stuck with that logistical provider.

With the recent time change, it’s important to note that logistics drivers are affected by this time change, and with Christmas being right around the corner it would really help if residents around the world would leave their lights on to help the USPS personnel, UPS drivers, FedEx drivers, Amazon drivers, DHL drivers, and any other personnel who might deliver packages to homes, apartments, condos, and etc. If you can enter the building attempt to leave the package with the resident. www.iwantmymail.com

The package, and the boomerang effect! What is meant by this? When you auto-ship an item, you the consumer are saying that I live at this address, so please continue to ship my order of vitamins via priority mail rate every month until I long into my account, and change the credentials. Life happens, and two weeks your job notifies you that you will be reassigned from your location in Provo, Utah to another location within the company in Maui, Hawaii, and now you haven’t had the opportunity to change your auto-ship location of your vitamins, you have put in a change-of-address, via the United States Postal Service, but now the company where you order the vitamins from have made a deal with FedEx, and now they’re the preferred shipper so FedEx is now delivering your vitamins, and you moved three months ago from Provo, Utah to your new home in Maui, Hawaii, so your vitamins are going to continue to be shipped to Provo, Utah until you go to the website, and change your auto-ship location.

The unique thing about the Postal Service is like a boomerang they return to your home six days a week with mail, or a package that you might have ordered off of Ebay, unlike other logistical providers who only come for the sole purpose of delivering a package once a week, or twice a week, but never everyday like the Postal Service, and quite often if a package is left at a residence where a customer has moved from, chances are the Postal Carrier will inform the other logistical carrier that the customer has moved, that’s the effect of communication, and by sharing and working together all logistical companies can deliver more efficiently by helping each other, but often under pressure drivers rarely have time to communicate because of tight delivery schedules. www.iwantmymail.com
